The farm was established in 1981 by husband and wife Gigi Manenti and Cristina Sala on the hills of Sostegno. These hills, surrounded by woods and vineyards, have always been dedicated to the production of a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.
The roots of the company lie in the skills handed down by Gigi’s grandfather and father, the former a sharecropper and the latter a farmer. Despite that, it was the careful reflection and fervent discussion of the seventies, around the themes of organic and environmentally friendly production, that pushed Gigi and Cristina to a precise research goal: to open a farm to produce vegetables and fruit for the market, that is for everyone, without the use of chemicals.
So, over the years they have developed a cultivation method that allows to safeguard those factors that operate spontaneously in non-cultivated environments, responsible for the strong and luxuriant growth of wild plants; for 15 years they have not used any fertilizers (neither of chemical nor organic origin).
They have been inspired by the processes that occur naturally in the woods and uncultivated meadows that surround their fields, but their method is consolidated by recent scientific developments in microbiology, both at the theoretical level and from studies conducted specifically on their soils.
The results are a constant high productivity over time and a marked improvement in organoleptic qualities, compared to the traditional organic, to which they belong (ICEA certification, op. Controlled I148).
In recent years, with the transfer of the company to their daughters Marta and Chiara, they have created a small processing laboratory where they produce preserves, jams and fruit juices starting exclusively from their raw materials, including ancient varieties of apples.
Moreover, with the idea of making their message reach as many people as possible, they have become an educational farm: to let people know that it is really possible to produce, and in large quantities, good, clean and fair food.
