Since 1996, year of foundation of the farm Cà d’Andrei, goats continue to graze for eight months a year in the hamlet of Case Code Superiore, but many things have been added around. Today the farm takes care, with organic methods, of the cultivation of about fifteen hectares, distributed among the municipalities of Sagliano, Tollegno and Bioglio: a small part of these lands is dedicated to vegetable garden and orchard, while the rest is used for pasture and for the production of about 30,000 kg per year of organic hay with which the animals are fed in winter. The breeding includes forty-five dairy goats of the Camosciata delle Alpi and Saanen breeds, whose milk is processed raw, in the dairy built next to the barn, and transformed into fresh and aged cheeses (EC mark 01/538). Cattle and pigs are also raised organically and used to produce cured meats. To close the breeding section there are the farmyard animals. In 2012 Andrea inaugurated the ventilated barn: powered by solar panels, it allows to collect the grass at the right level of maturity and, protected from the frequent storms in Biella, to dry it in the best way, preserving, more than with traditional sun drying, all the nutritional properties. The goats are enthusiastic about it! The goats’ milk is processed raw, directly on the farm, and transformed into fresh goats’ milk, ricotta and cheeses for aging (Cru, Verd’Alp, tomette etc.). The farm is also an agritourism and educational farm.
