The company was founded in 2014 in the municipality of Sostegno (Biella) from an idea to recover ancient vineyards and orchards that had been abandoned and from the desire to create products free from synthetic chemicals on the plants (only copper and sulphur are used) and in processing. The vineyards are located between the municipality of Sostegno, with its hamlet of Casa del Bosco, and that of Curino. Their altitude varies from 400 to 500 metres above sea level, with prevailing south-eastern exposure. The soils are red porphyries of volcanic origin, dry and acidic, resulting from the collapse of the caldera of the Supervolcano of Valsesia. The 12 vineyards, run until a few years ago by elderly local vine growers who have maintained traditional vine training techniques and handed them down to Lorenzo Rovero, reach a total extension of 3 hectares and due to their age (between 80 and 40 years) have low yields but high quality. The grapes processed come solely from their own land. The company is certified organic by ICEA (for wines from the 2018 vintage), but has adopted very stringent criteria in this field since its foundation. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks, without the use of selected yeasts, with a preference for indigenous yeasts, and no sulphites are added during the various processing stages. The red wines are matured in oak barrels.
In the orchards, located in the Sostegno area and neighbouring villages, there are old varieties of apple trees (Gran Alexander, Piatlin,…), pear trees (Martin Sec,…) and hybrid grapes (Franseisa,…); no treatment is carried out in these orchards other than simple maintenance of the land (grass cutting, pruning,…). The fruit produced is made into juice by pressing, without preservatives or added sugar.
The farm also produces Nebbiolo and apple vinegars.
The care of the landscape element allowed the company to obtain the + BELLEZZA IN VALLE 2021 award for the new vineyard in Moncucco.
